Joseph White Award Ceremony and Lecture
Join us for a celebration of excellence in
psychology as we honor the legacy of Dr. Joseph L.
White, a transformative figure in American
psychology. The first African American person to
receive a doctorate in clinical psychology from
MSU, Dr. White had a distinguished career setting
the foundations of a strengths-based African
American psychology through his academic and
public intellectual works. He was a leading
advocate for an inclusive US psychology. This year
we will be honoring Dr. Usha Tummala-Narra
An alumna of our Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program,
Dr. Tummala-Narra is a Professor of Counseling,
Developmental, and Educational Psychology at Boston
College. Her research and scholarship focus on
immigration, trauma, and culturally informed
psychoanalytic psychotherapy. She is also a clinical
psychologist in Independent Practice. Dr. Tummala-
Narra is the recipient of numerous awards and honors,
including being listed among the top 2% of Highly-
Cited Scholars Worldwide!
