Mexican author and former Benson librarian José Montelongo discusses his madcap comic novel "No soy tan zen" (2022). Montelongo's protagonist is Julián González, a journalist attempting to recover his flagging career after a verbal outburst. During one night on which González has been assigned to cover what might be the longest musical performance ever, we learn of the protagonist's past, and accompany him on a rollicking night in Mexico City among a colorful cast of characters. In Montelongo's words, the novel vacillates "between farce and philosophy"; it is a tale in which the characters find themselves in existential crisis, and, perhaps, the readers are lucky enough to witness some resolution to those crises.
Montelongo will read from the work in Spanish, followed by a Q&A in Spanish and English without interpretation.
