About this Event
In an inspiring act of creative collaboration, Jon Johnson's Repertory Arts (JJRArts), supported by the California Arts Council and the Arts Council for Long Beach, is thrilled to present "Bullied", a compelling theatrical experience designed to facilitate healing and empowerment for those affected by bullying. This unique production is the culmination of a year-long artistic residency at JJRArts, and it is set to make its debut at the Hidden History Museum in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.
“Bullied” is not just a performance; it is a journey through the narratives of those who have endured the pain of bullying and those who have inflicted the actions of bullying. The show aspires to be a space where both the bullied and the bullies can reconcile with their past and find a path to liberation.
This production will showcase a collaborative synergy from three diverse artists who have been in residence at JJRArts over the last year. The artists are as follows:
• Chatiera "Cookie" Ray, the visionary artistic director of The CRayProject LLC, a Dance Company based in Long Beach, California.
• A. K. Toney, renowned Griot from Leimert Park, whose spoken words weave the fabric of storytelling with profound resonance.
• Brother Jason Lee Byrd, a Capoeira Instructor, who brings to life on stage the dynamic and liberating art form of Capoeira de Angola, an ancient martial art that originated from enslaved Africans trying to break free from the shackles of oppression during Colonialism.
Together, these Artists have crafted a narrative told through expressive dance choreography, evocative poetry, and powerful movements of Capoeira de Angola that symbolize strength and freedom. JJRArts invites the community to support this artistic endeavor and witness a story of Resilience and Hope.
