Thank you for helping build our community.
Charlotte DeSoto Building Industry Association leadership works on your behalf, to keep building strong in our community.
The CDBIA is affiliated with the Florida Home Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders. Especially since the onset of COVID, we have been trying to help provide value to all companies in the building industry.
We would like to invite you to the CDBIA office on October 22nd from 12pm-2pm for lunch. You are welcome to stop by to let us know of any issues you may be dealing with in the building industry. Also joining us for lunch are leaders from Charlotte County and DeSoto County building departments.
Here is the information:
October 22nd 12pm-2pm
Address: 17984 Toledo Blade Blvd. Port Charlotte, FL 33948
Some of the things we are working on:
DOH and septic permits. DOH will be drawing up a letter to let you know the ways they are fixing the delays they have right now to make this a short-term situation.
FPL. Since 2020, we have been working with FPL to keep a focus on new construction. We have been able to set up weekly/monthly and quarterly meetings for builders who have been having ongoing issues
CCU- we continue to work to find products and employees to help them with their delays
Permits. We have new employees in the building departments, as well as many new contractors. We have worked side by side to help keep permits moving along.
We report unlicensed activity. We have met with DBPR to help expedite licenses and open cases for those who are working without a license.
We work with our schools to build interest and educate students about careers in construction. In May, , our CDBIA leaders provided 17 scholarships to students to build a career in the building industry.
We cannot take credit on everything we have done. Much of the regulatory fixes have come from FHBA and NAHB. The CDBIA hosted a cornhole tournament, and a builder shared that moving gopher tortoises was costing $10K! We worked with FHBA and a bill was passed to allow gopher tortoises on State-owned land. This has helped bring the price of moving gopher tortoises down.
Other regulatory issues have been working on 404 permitting, FEMA 2.0, and what should be included in the 50% rule,
And when Hurricane Ian, Idalia, Helene and Milton hit, we kept the messaging going about hiring a licensed contractor. We had thousands of supplies from blue tarp to tar, nails, tools and fans and humidifiers donated and passed out to contractors for you to be the heroes to help fix the bruises on homes and businesses.
We had building supply companies come and process orders for contractors for products to ship at once and had Florida Economic Opportunity on site to offer information on small business loans to help assist with rebuilding. We have seats at the table throughout our community, throughout the state, and even nationally to represent your voice, and we held BBQs to offer a place to decompress after patching up the damage. From advice and assistance to financial gain to FUN, our CDBIA is here for you!

We would love for you to help invest in our CDBIA. We have extra incentives we can send you if you are interested. From a CEU/Education and Expo pass to the Southeast Building Conference (valued at $199) to rebate programs on products, to free contracts (including escalation clause ) for your business, we are here to help you and would love for you to be a part of the CDBIA, which has grown to be the 4th largest association in the state of Florida.
So, if you are interested, please stop by for lunch. No pressure. Just let us know you will be stopping by so we can save you a sandwich and sides.
If you are interested in learning more about the CDBIA and cannot stop by for lunch, let us know and we can have a leader in our association contact you.
If you are ready to join us, we welcome you to go online and join our CDBIA family https://members.cdbia.com/applicationtojoin
And if there is any problem you are dealing with, know we are here for you. Do not hesitate to call us at 941-625-0804.

Thank you again for all you do to build a better community.
