What to Expect:
Attendees will participate in an educational and restoration event focused on ecological conservation at Newport Bay. Volunteers will help with restoration site maintenance, including removing non-native plant species (e.g., Spanish sunflower, celery, pampas grass, horehound) and trash cleanup. There will also be opportunities to learn about native and invasive plants within Coastal Sage Scrub and Riparian habitats.
Event Schedule:
- 10:00 AM – Arrival & Introduction
- 10:15 AM – Walk to the site
- 10:30 AM – Begin restoration work
- 11:00 AM – Water & stretch break
- 11:30 AM – Finish up & gather tools
- 11:45 AM – Walk back to vehicles
- 12:00 PM – Event ends
Additional Information:
- What to Bring & Wear: Long sleeves and pants are recommended, waterproof boots or closed-toe shoes are encouraged for muddy terrain, and bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.
- Educational Opportunities: Volunteers can learn about habitats, vegetative monitoring, and ecological restoration techniques.
- Supplies Provided: Gloves, tools (cultivators, hula hoes, bags), water, snacks, sunscreen, and a first aid kit.
