SKATERS / DERBY PLAYERS
New to roller derby? You’ll begin in our Texas Tumbleweeds 8-week training program, where you’ll learn:
Forward and backward skating
How to stop safely
Safe falling techniques
How to take and give hits
Basic derby rules and track awareness
Once Captains determine a skater is safe and confident with the basic skills, they’ll move into our Level 2 training group, Deuces Wild, where they continue building skills and preparing for future team placement. Everyone progresses at their own pace—some skaters may need more than 8 weeks to advance, and that’s completely okay.
If you already have skating experience and can safely demonstrate all Tumbleweeds skills, coaches may test you early for advancement to Level 2: Deuces Wild, where you’ll learn more advanced roller derby skills and rules. Skaters who move up early are proudly called our “Wild Cards.”
Required Gear:
Quad skates
Knee pads
Elbow pads
Wrist guards
Helmet
Mouth guard
Monthly Dues: $25
Practice Schedule (Tumbleweeds):
Mondays • 6–7 PM
Wednesdays • 6–7 PM
Location: Nations Tobin Park – Large Rink
