Johnny Hoy & the Bluefish bring their sometimes soulful, sometimes raunchy take on a great smorgasbord classics — Chicago Blues, Rockabilly, Rock’n’Roll, Country, Swing, good old R&B, and a bit of Cajun flavored off beat stuff — to Sanctuary in Maynard. This is a dance band from start to finish. Formed in 1991 and based in on Martha’s Vineyard, the band has released five CDs and performed around the world — as far as South Africa and Norway.JOHNNY juggles a full life where he takes advantage of his many skills including stone masonry, fishing, antique dealing, farming. Somehow he manages to do all the gigs as well. He came to the Island in 1978, after soaking up Muddy Waters’ and Tom Waits’ shows as a teenager.
JEREMY BERLIN, the piano player has been with the band since the summer of ’93. He’s played duets with Bill Clinton and Carly Simon and toured the world with The Nina Simone Band. He’s not afraid of anything — and he plays it all. Jeremy’s right has plays the keyboard. His left hand plays the bass line, as the band has no bass player. (PS You’d never know.)
DELANIE PICKERING arrived on Martha’s Vineyard in her van at the age of 20, and for the first few months, didn’t tell anyone she played guitar. Now in her mid-20s, she plays with everyone and joined the band in 2018. A powerhouse blues player, she has the tone and authenticity of a seasoned performer and sings that way too.
CAMERON IGO is all of 19 years old with the youthful vibe and energy that comes with that! We found our new drummer at good moment — his parents were long-time fans, and he raps from behind the kit!
