Johnny Ball, a name synonymous with mathematical wonder, has a lesser-known chapter in his life—one that unfolded under the spotlight of comedy stages. While most recognize him for his iconic BBC TV show “Think of a Number” and his tireless promotion of mathematics and science, Johnny’s journey extends far beyond equations and formulas. Before captivating audiences with numerical magic, Johnny enjoyed a successful seventeen-year career as a professional comedian. His stage was the vibrant Northern Club Scene, where laughter echoed through smoky rooms. Armed with wit and timing, Johnny made sixteen British Forces Tours, crisscrossing the globe and leaving a trail of chuckles in his wake. Johnny’s comedy education began early. At just eleven years old, he watched Blackpool comedians alongside his “gag-a-minute” dad. His collection of comedy records and monologues grew, and he took his first steps as a Butlin Redcoat—a role that taught him more about humour than any textbook could. “My Previous Life in Comedy” began as a double act with his famous daughter, Zoe. But her BBC Radio commitments kept her from touring alongside Johnny. Now, in this solo version, Johnny takes centre stage, sharing an amazing and hysterical story that spans decades.Following the event, there will be an engaging Q & A session where attendees can interact with Johnny Ball. Additionally, there will be a book signing opportunity, allowing fans to get their copies personally signed by the renowned entertainer.
Don’t miss Johnny’s new stage event, “Johnny Ball - My Previous Life in Comedy!” Catch it at the Wantage Literary Festival on Friday 8th November at 7pm.
