Each year, we look forward to bringing you a show inspired by one of Fairmont’s legends, Johnnie Johnson. You can always expect a solid mix of jazz, blues, and soul and this year is no different.6PM We kick things off with Adrian & The Soul Miners. Since their formation in 2003, The Soul Miners have performed the best vintage soul music of the 1960’s and 70’s for the North Central WV area. The Soul Miners never grow tired of playing songs by artists who inspire them to be better musicians. These artists include Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, the Temptations, the Four Tops, Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, Wilson Pickett, and Michael Jackson. With talent, sensitivity, and respect, The Soul Miners perform such time-tested songs as “Tracks of My Tears,” “What’s Going On,” “I Feel Good,” “Superstition,” “My Girl,” “Soul Man,” and “Sex Machine” and make them part of today’s experience. The Soul Miners believe that good music played with emotion will always matter. Their tight and energetic performances have built them a loyal dance-floor following. A.J. & The Jiggawatts 7:15PM
In a world where mid tempo and middle of the road soul permeates the airwaves, this wrecking crew of G.E.D. Soul are drawing a line in the sand by making soul music that hits harder, faster and nastier than just about anyone in the game today. AJ Eason's gin soaked vocal howls drip with a carefree carousing not unlike that of a street smart hustler making moves to make ends meet. The band follows suit with highly syncopated melodics, often at breakneck speed, all while maintaining an almost inhuman tightness. Toss all of these elements into a highball glass and garnish with a pinch of rock n' soul and you've got the makings for a serious raw soul cocktail, something Johnnie would have definitely enjoyed.
8:30PM Direct from Nashville,TN comes a group heavy on the soul & funk scene, The Gripsweats! The group started off as a studio project at the G.E.D. Soul Records studio, but eventually migrated to bandleader Andrew Muller’s basement studio where the sounds got very rough and raw! With multiple releases on Loveland, Ohio’s popular soul label, Colemine Records, The Gripsweats will definitely turn up the heat while performing a live set of their deeply funky, smoky, soul burners including Ziggy’s Walk, G’on Use It and Alpha Dog.
