Jazz Series / Live at Timucua: Esteemed drummer Jonbern Thomas brings a universe of rhythm transcending genres. Thomas grew up in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti, and learned drums from his father. His emotionally uplifting approach includes a mélange of neo-soul, swing, and Haitian tradition. His music opens horizons where exploring and creating bring harmony and build community. Today’s top musicians, including pianist Aaron Goldberg have joined Thomas on stage many times indicating the level of respect and musicianship he brings to stage. Goldberg is scheduled to accompany Thomas. Other prestigious musicians sharing the stage include Puerto Rican saxophonist Miguel Zenón who received the 2024 Grammy Award for B est Latin Jazz Album El Arte del Bolero, Vol. 2; trumpeter Jean Caze, who tours with Michael Bublé, and bassist Dion Kerr a penultimate player with a reputation for Afro-Caribbean grooves. Kerr’s band The Smoogies’ 2022 album Planet Smoogie includes celebrated trumpeter Nicolas Payton. The respect these all-stars give Thomas comes as no surprise. He has a reputation for bringing out the best in others both on stage and in the jazz community, and in 2018 he received the world-renowned Port-Au-Prince Jazz Festival honored him for services to jazz in Haiti. Thomas released his album Mesi, Merci, Thank You, Gracias in 2017 to critical acclaim, and is currently working on his next release.Personnel:
