**This program was originally schedule for August 29th and has been rescheduled for October 3rd.**The Manchester Public Library is pleased to host Connecticut-born historian and political scientist Morgan O’Brien for “John Trumbull: Revolutionary Spy” on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. at the Whiton Branch Library on 100 North Main Street.
John Trumbull is known as the painter of the American Revolution. During his brief time as a soldier, Trumbull served briefly as aide-de-camp to General Washington. He also helped Benjamin Tallmadge in convincing Washington that Nathan Hale would be the ideal choice for a spy. With encouragement from Benjamin Franklin, Trumbull traveled to London to study under a renowned painter named Benjamin West. While studying in London, the Continental Army captured and executed Major John Andre. Around the same time, the British arrested Trumbull on espionage charges, and he remained imprisoned for several months. Join historian Morgan O'Brien to discuss John Trumbull and find out whether or not he was a spy! O'Brien specializes in American history and politics, notably the American Revolution and the American Presidency. Morgan is also the proud owner of a website called "Searching History," which she created to share her passion for history with others. As part of her work, Morgan travels the country, giving talks about history.
