The speaker for our first meeting of 2026 will be Katy Shore-Kapsis giving us an illustrated talk on John Robinson McClean, Engineer & Philanthropist, the engineer of the Lichfield Waterworks, Sandfields Pumping Station. The pumping station opened in 1858 to provide clean water to the Black Country towns. It was expanded in 1866 and again in 1873.
One of the Cornish Beam Engines is still in place and the Lichfield Waterworks Trust aims to restore this to working condition.
This free event will be held at Darwin Hall, Lichfield, on Friday 16th January from 7:15 pm and non-members are welcome.
There's a car park off Heathcot Place, Lichfield, WS13 6RQ, and also close by at Waitrose. Darwin Hall may also be reached on foot from Cathedral Walk.
