About this Event

How do we write about the Climate Crisis? John Ironmonger discusses his new novel The Wager and the Bear

John Ironmonger’s debut novel, The Notable Brain of Maximilian Ponder, was shortlisted for the Costa First Novel Award, and his third, Not Forgetting the Whale - also published as The Whale at the End of the World - was a number one international bestseller.

John – who has a PhD in Zoology from this University - will join us to talk about writing about the climate crisis - the biggest story of our time - and its associated pitfalls. His novels often feature issues of environmental concern, including his most recent novel The Wager and the Bear, which tells the story of a dangerous wager and the slow collapse of the global climate.

John will be interviewed by the eco-linguist Dr Jessica Hampton.
