John Grant saapuu intiimeille soolokonserteille Suomeen. Arvostettu laulaja-lauluntekijä esiintyy Helsingin G Livelabissa perjantaina 22. toukokuuta 2026 ja Tampereen G Livelabissa lauantaina 23. toukokuuta 2026.
Islantiin muuttanut John Grant on yksi 2000-luvun vaikuttavimpia lauluntekijöitä. Soolodebyytti Queen of Denmark (2010) valittiin Mojo-lehdessä vuoden albumiksi. Tämän jälkeen Grant on julkaissut joukon ylistettyjä levyjä, joissa melodinen kamaripop ja tumman kimaltava synteettinen tanssimusiikki kohtaavat. Hänen lämmin baritoninsa kantaa tarinoita, joissa henkilökohtainen kipu ja katkeran humoristiset oivallukset kietoutuvat toisiinsa.
Viimeisin albumi, Bella Unionin julkaisema The Art of the Lie (2024) sisältää Grantin monitasoisimpia sävellyksiä. Levyllä folk antaa tilaa funkille, mutta Grantille ominaiset elementit tunteella ladatusta baritonista jäänviileään elektroniikkaan ovat läsnä.
Grant kasvoi Yhdysvaltojen Michiganissa homoseksuaalina konservatiivisessa ja uskonnollisessa ympäristössä. Nuoruudessaan masennuksesta ja päihdeongelmista kärsinyt Grant vaikutti ensin The Czars -yhtyeessä, jonka hajottua Grant raitistui ja aloitti soolouransa.
John Grant on esiintynyt BBC Promsissa, myynyt loppuun Royal Albert Hallin ja tehnyt yhteistyötä muun muassa Sinéad O’Connorin, Elbow’n, Kylie Minoguen, Robbie Williamsin ja Midlaken kanssa. Kesällä 2025 Lontoon Royal Opera Housessa esitettiin hänen säveltämänsä A Single Man -baletti.

John Grant, one of the most resonant songwriters and singers of the 21st century, performs intimate solo shows at G Livelab Tampere and Helsinki!
Since his debut solo album Queen of Denmark was voted MOJO Magazine’s best album of 2010, Grant’s profile has since risen massively through a series of rapturously received LPs that entwine acutely melodic chamber-pop with darkly glittering dance music tropes, centred on synth-pop and disco. Against this brooding and inventive backdrop and channelled through his glorious dulcet baritone, Grant unleashed autobiographical laments and diatribes, as painful and intimate as they were caustic and savagely funny.
Michigan is where Grant’s journey began where he felt compelled to hide emerging same-sex feelings from his God-fearing family and community. The Grants’ move to Colorado where John spent his miserable closeted teens, and the emotional fall-out, led to severe depression and substance and alcohol addiction that he only managed to combat after the messy split of his band The Czars in 2005.
Even so, over six Czars albums, Grant had mastered the art of gorgeous, country-flecked melody and gripping narratives, and once he’d embraced sobriety, the exquisitely brooding and rousing soft-rock contours of Queen Of Denmark changed his life. Between that debut and his latest album The Art Of The Lie are four albums, which have for instance earned him a nomination for Male Solo Artist at the 2014 BRITS (alongside Eminem, Justin Timberlade, Bruno Mars and Drake) and reached the top 5 on the UK album chart. A Top 10 UK chart entry for his 2021 album Boy From Michigan followed by some of the very best reviews of his career for 2024’s The Art Of The Lie confirm that John Grant continues to go from strength to strength.
Grant has sold out Royal Albert Hall and collaborated with artists such as Sinead O’Connor, Elbow, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams and Midlake. Last Summer Grant embarked on one of his most ambitious projects to date writing the music for, and starring in, the ballet production of “A Single Man” premiering at the Manchester International Festival and then London’s Opera House.
