The Historical Society of Bay County is please to present the lecture and slideshow “John Clark, Soldier, Statesman and Pioneer” at the Bay County Library, 898 W. 11th Street, on Monday, January 26 at 6 p.m. The year 2026 being the semi quin-centennial (250th) anniversary of our country, it is fitting that we recognize the patriot that resided on our shores – General and Georgia Governor John Clark. Clark is also considered the first recorded settler in St. Andrews, and 2027 will be the bicentennial anniversary of his settlement.The presenter, Bob Hurst, is a sixth generational Floridian. He holds a degree in Anthropology and Archaeology from Florida State University and a Postgraduate Academic Diploma in Archaeology from the University of London. Among his publications is his book The Spanish Road, Travels along Florida’s Royal Road, El Camino Real. He has participated in archaeological digs in Florida, England, Yemen and Iran. Recently he has dug in the Clark settlement here in Panama City. He is the current Vice President of the Historical Society and President of the Appliance Center.
The program is free and open to the public. Seating is limited so please come early.
