Joe May's Month of Mondays:Based out of Charlotte, NC, songwriter/producer Joe May has elevated his sound to bold new heights with the transformation of his band, Month of Mondays, into a dynamic 9-piece powerhouse. Known for his work with Pluto Gang, May now draws on the lush, horn-driven arrangements of mid-70s west coast rock, adding trombone, trumpet, saxophone, and percussion to revive the near-bygone sound of rock & roll big bands.
Blending intricate brass counterpoint, soulful grooves, and vintage keyboard textures, this evolved lineup features top-tier local musicians, bringing a fresh yet nostalgic energy to the stage. Inspired by the timeless compositions of Steely Dan, Little Feat, and Wings, May’s band channels the spirit of that era—seamlessly weaving pop, rock, jazz, and R&B into original music that feels both familiar and new.
Fronted by May, singing and performing on a mix of 70s-era analog keyboards, the live show is a high-energy journey through rich arrangements, improvisational jams, and irresistible melodies. This new chapter is a celebration of musical reinvention, delivered with eyes set firmly on the future.
Duck:
In 2016, 3 friends started playing weekend jam sessions together. And Duck was formed, with word spreading quickly about this new Raleigh, NC based Band. As the word spread about this funky, soulful, bluesy band, those jam sessions transferred into writing original music. Duck began booking gigs at venues around North Carolina, making crowds boogie to their upbeat sound.
In 2021, with the addition of Donnie Tyree on vocals, Duck found their groove both performing and writing originals with a solid assembly of talent: Donnie Tyree on vocals, Mike Swartz on guitar, Chuck Rhew on keys, Chris Holloway on bass and Fred Dees on drums and electric washboard. Opening for talent like Neal Francis and Daniel Donato, and releasing their inaugural EP, MOVES, the band has solidified a loyal fanbase throughout North Carolina.
All band members participate in writing music and lyrics. Their most recent EP, MOVES, recorded in Raleigh, NC summer of 2022, can be found on all streaming services. Upcoming plans will have the band touring the southeast and releasing more original music.
