We are excited to be able to bring back to The Thursday Night Music Club the brilliant Joe Kelly & The Royal Pharmacy (well, some of them)Nearly two years on from launching on streaming services, ‘World On Fire’, the acclaimed debut album by Joe Kelly & The Royal Pharmacy, is available now on vinyl via Dirty Carrot Records, having been lovingly remastered by Matthew Evans (frontman of Cardiff-based psych-rock geniuses Keys).
Playing live across the UK in support of the vinyl release, Joe Kelly is a chameleonic presence, sometimes showing up to solo sets with just a broken-necked guitar and a battered case full of harmonicas to accompany him. On other occasions, the dustbowl-dry skeletons of Joe Kelly's haunted blues and country songs are fleshed out with three-part vocal harmonies and atmospheric guitar and keyboard textures by members of The Royal Pharmacy, his backing band on World On Fire. Mercurial and spellbinding in equal measure, no version of the Joe Kelly live experience should be missed.
Support from the brilliant singer songwriter David Corrigan. These days, David is a reasonably reclusive singer/songwriter who has been most recently found fronting local biscuit-loving troubadours, The Astral Ponies. Armed with a faithful, if slightly battered, acoustic guitar, you can expect stripped-down versions of some Pony classics, the usual country-tinged laments, and dusty old folk. Rumours abound that he might even throw in some new material.
Live Music from 8.30pm. Entry free, but please do bring cash for the artists tip jar.
