About this Event

Nashville based pianist Jody Nardone and his trio play the music of Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. With Jody Nardone on piano and vocals, Brian Allen on acoustic and electric bass and Nioshi Jackson on drums and percussion.
Guitarist Pat Metheny has won countless polls as "Best Jazz Guitarist" and awards, including three gold records and 20 Grammy Awards in 12 different categories including Best Rock Instrumental, Best Contemporary Jazz Recording, Best Jazz Instrumental Solo, Best Instrumental Composition. Metheny first burst onto the international jazz scene in 1974 and is known for his trademarked playing style, which blends the loose and flexible articulation customarily reserved for horn players with an advanced rhythmic and harmonic sensibility - a way of playing and improvising that was modern in conception but grounded deeply in the jazz tradition of melody, swing, and the blues. With the release of his first album, Bright Size Life (1975), Metheny reinvented the traditional "jazz guitar" sound for a new generation of players. Throughout his career, Pat Metheny has continued to re-define the genre by utilizing new technology and constantly working to evolve the improvisational and sonic potential of his instrument. Metheny's versatility is almost nearly without peer on any instrument. American jazz pianist and composer Lyle Mays met Pat Metheny in 1974, and founded the Pat Metheny Group with Pat. In the Pat Metheny Group, Mays provided arrangements, orchestration and the harmonic and metric backbone of the group's musical signature. He occasionally performed on electric guitar as well. On the songs “Forward March” and “Yolanda, You Learn” from the Pat Metheny Group album First Circle (1984), and in the concert tour for that album, he played trumpet. Mays and Metheny composed and arranged nearly all of the group's music. Mays won eleven Grammys with the Pat Metheny Group and was nominated for four others for his own work.
Nashville-based (by way of New Jersey) pianist/vocalist/composer Jody Nardone is that rare musician to be both a "singer’s singer" and an acclaimed pianist respected enough to be a top call jazz player and improviser. Jody started piano lessons at age four and studied piano and later voice with some of the greatest educators in the NJ and NYC area from his earliest years until adulthood. Nardone was accepted into the prestigious Jazz Studies and Performance program at William Paterson University in NJ where he studied with jazz legends Harold Mabern, Rufus Reid, Norman Simmons, Hal Galper, Joe Lovano, Jim McNeely, and pianist/clinician Kenny Werner. Nardone has performed and/or recorded with folks as diverse as Brian Setzer, Bret Michaels, Larry Carlton, Jeff Coffin, Joel Frahm, Chester Thompson, Rod McGaha, Brian Beller, The Floating Men, and currently with John Cowan and Andrea Zonn’s new supergroup The HercuLeons. Nardone loves to reimagine and reinterpret existing material, and in 2004 Nardone was asked to be a part of the critically acclaimed Crimson Jazz Trio, a group devoted to creating jazz re-interpretations of the music of King Crimson, led by ex-Crimson drummer Ian Wallace and also featuring Billy Cobham sideman, Tim Landers on bass. Crimson Jazz Trio made two recordings which received many praiseworthy reviews in Downbeat and Jazz Times as well as being listed as one of the top Critic’s Picks for the year 2005 in Jazziz magazine.
"Thanks to a dynamic style that can shift from the whispered beauty of Bill Evans to the percussive flights of McCoy Tyner, Nardone has emerged as one of Nashville's preeminent jazz pianists. His reputation is also blowing up nationwide, where he is receiving raves in Downbeat and Jazziz for his role in the Crimson Jazz Trio..." - Michael McCall, Nashville Scene
