Joanne Harris (OBE, FRSL) was born in Barnsley of a French mother and an English father. She studied Modern and Medieval Languages at Cambridge and was a teacher for fifteen years, during which time she published three novels, including Chocolat (1999), which was made into an Oscar-nominated film starring Juliette Binoche.Since then, Joanne Harris has written more than 20 novels, plus short stories, libretti, game scripts, a stage musical, and cookbooks. Her works have been translated into 50+ languages, earning her a global readership and multiple awards.
An honorary Fellow of St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, and Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, Joanne has also been a tireless advocate for authors’ rights, serving as Chair of the Society of Authors.
