Mission StatementThe Mission of The Junior League of Amarillo is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
The Junior League of Amarillo, in collaboration with Glass Breakers, proudly announces their Women’s Leadership Conference slated for March 6th, 2025. This event, destined to be a keystone in women’s empowerment, is meticulously designed to spotlight and uplift women leaders who have confronted and overcome barriers in their professional journeys.
A major highlight of this conference will be the keynote address by Jessica Buchanan, an aid worker in northern Somalia, helping to raise awareness about how to avoid land mines. In 2011, Buchanan and a colleague found their convoy surrounded by armed Somalians. The man responsible for protecting them had sold them out to land pirates, who demanded a ransom of up to $45 million. Buchanan and her coworker were kidnapped for 93 days, until U.S. special operations forces — the Navy's SEAL Team 6, famous for killing Osama bin Laden — came to the rescue. Her life’s journey and achievements encapsulate the spirit of perseverance and leadership, making her an ideal voice for this empowering event.
