Jim Muirhead: clarinet and saxophone(The pianist, bass player and drummer of the Quartet to be announced)
The last time Jim and his quartet played in Saddleworth was at St.Chad’s in 2021 during the Saddleworth Music Festival, it was a sellout. We’re very privileged to have Jim at the Millgate this year. If you missed Jim at St. Chad’s there is a good chance that you may have heard him playing the piano, clarinet or saxophone possibly at the Bridgewater Hall where until he retired this year Jim was a member of the clarinet section of the Halle or maybe when he was playing the clarinet at Granada Studios providing music for many dramas or perhaps at the Edinburgh Festival at the world premier of the opera Nixon or possibly when he was playing jazz in dozens of clubs with the likes of John Dankworth or if you were at Chetham’s College of Music studying jazz Jim could have been your tutor.
Coming nearer home Jim and the Quartet will be playing the great jazz standards including Take Five written by Paul Desmond and made famous by Dave Brubeck, Take The “A” Train composed by Billy Strayhorn and released in 1941 becoming Duke Ellington’s signature tune and items from the opera Porgy and Bess composed by George Gershwin.
Expect brilliant playing at an evening to remember.
