About this Event
Join Jill Liddington for this afternoon talk, as part of The Book Corner's and The Grayston Unity's TOWN Festival.
Rebel Girls, published by Virago in 2006, traced the thrilling tale of campaigners who took their Votes for Women message right across Yorkshire. In Halifax, suffragette heroines included Poor Law Guardian Mary Taylor; Dr Helena Jones from Wales; and Lavena Saltonstall, tailoress who’d moved from Hebden Bridge up to Halifax to join its local ‘nest of suffragettes’. So why was their story neglected for so long, and how did Jill uncover this brand new evidence?
Jill Liddington is a feminist historian and author living near Halifax. She is passionate about telling the story of Votes for Women and of the Anne Lister diaries.
