About this Event
What: Practice culture together as an act of resistance! We will sing, be guided in a listening experience, and share in community (this is not a Seder - see more details below). All are welcome!
What to bring: A listening device with cellular data and headphones, as well as water, sunscreen, and whatever else is needed to stay comfortable outdoors (chair or blanket).
Cost: Make a donation to Sogorea Te’ Land Trust here (scroll to the bottom of the webpage). Suggested donation - $18-36 (if you are able - this is a contribution beyond your annual Shu’umi). Please note “JOOL Passover” in the memo.
Accessibility: Strawberry Creek Park is wheelchair accessible.
Getting There: Please arrive 15 minutes early and allow for plenty of time to park (street parking). The North Berkeley BART station is about a 15 minute walk to the park.
As Passover approaches, our thoughts and hearts turn toward liberation. But what does liberation mean for those of us living in diaspora on stolen land? What does it mean for the land itself, for the trees and birds and creeks? How can we be good guests to the Lisjan, Ohlone people in their ancestral and on-going territory of Huichin (East Bay)? Join us as we consider these questions together in community, using the sacred practice of Hitbodedut. We'll gather at Strawberry Creek Park to learn a bit about the land and waters and take part in the guided listening experience, created by JOOL member Leora Cockrell. We will reflect and share in community and sing our prayers for the land, water and the liberation of ALL peoples.
Participation in this event is donation-based, with all contributions going directly to Sogorea Te' Land Trust. We suggest a donation of $18–$36, regardless of any prior payment to Shu’umi. Please include “JOOL Passover” in the memo. Participants should bring a listening device and headphones, as well as water, sunscreen and whatever else is needed to stay comfortable. This event is outdoors and open to all. Bring a chair or blanket if you’d like seating. Invite your communities!
