Explore the Jewish Community on the Upper West Side with its unique and culturally rich history on this small group walking tour.
About this Event

Join our guide, Barry Judelman, as we explore the unique and culturally rich history of the Jewish community of the Upper West Side, an area boarded by Central Park to the East, and Riverside Park to the West. This neighborhood is a 'powerhouse' of shuls, schools, and Jewish culture. The architecture exemplifies Beaux Arts, Art Noveau, and Art Deco.

Among the many sites of Jewish interest we will visit, will include : Congregation Rodeph Sholom, The JCC of Manhattan, Congregation B'nai Jeshurun, and the Society for the Advancement of Judaism (Judaism that Stands for All), and The Jewish Center, a neo-classical Modern Orthodox synagogue, built in 1918, that was among the first in the US to feature a pool and recreational space. Its founding Rabbi was the controversial Mordecai Kaplan..

We will discuss how this special community continues to shape the identity of American Jews to this day.

This tour lasts approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hours with significant walking, and WE TOUR RAIN OR SHINE.

In order to enable you to hear the guide, we will be using an app for smart phones. Bring earphones for your cell.

Tickets are $30 for Adults, $28 for Seniors, and $25 for students and are an additional $3PP if purchased the day of the tour - pending availability.
