What is San Francisco to the Jews and what are the Jews to San Francisco? We invite you to discover key chapters of Jewish legacy of the City by the Bay. You will learn about the most prominent Jewish pioneers and entrepreneurs who helped transform San Francisco into a thriving city, establishing the second largest Jewish community in the US.
We will walk through the neighborhood where many prominent Jewish families resided and see some of the homes of the “Bavarian Jewish princes”. You will also learn about Jewish contributions to the culture of SF Bay Area, local and US politics and civil society. We will discover local Jewish traditions and the tremendous impact of the local Jewish philanthropy. As part of our tour we will also have a chance to view the newly restored sanctuary of Sherith Israel, one of the oldest California congregations.
