Jesse Sykes And The Sweet Hereafter is the result of the enduring musical alchemy between singer-songwriter Jesse Sykes and guitarist Phil Wandscher, which began in Seattle in 2001. Blending folk, blues, orchestral elements and various psychedelic stylings, their sound culminates in what the New York Times described as “spellbound music, rapt in fatalism and sorrow.” Having just released their 5th record, “Forever, I’ve Been Being Born”, on Southern Lord and Ideologic Organ (Europe) Sykes says;
“This new album is our attempt at creating elegant folk and sometimes ragged, cosmic heart rendered songs, full of eulogies and laments. It’s chock full with themes of emotional dislocation, magical thinking, death and transformation. It took us ten years to complete this record—as life was challenging in that decade —so these two nights will truly be a celebration, a release in the truest sense of the word— because honestly I felt much of the time that it might never get finished —and at times, that weight felt unbearable.”
These two shows also celebrate the physical CD being available. (We will have both vinyl and cds at these shows!)
