Petersburg, NJ – March 27, 2023 – On Monday, July 3rd at 7PM, the Jersey Shore Pops will celebrate America’s founding by presenting a rousing tribute to legendary songwriters Glenn Miller, George Gershwin, and Irving Berlin.
This special concert, to held at Cape May Convention Hall, will feature Linda Gentille, the renowned conductor and entertainer who founded the Jersey Shore Pops in 2009. When not conducting the Jersey Shore Pops, Gentille is an in-demand entertainer, arranging music and traveling the world with her own big band orchestra, and conducting and performing over 75 concerts each year. Gentille appears on luxury cruise lines and in performing arts centers across the United States, combining seamlessly with hundreds of different musicians.
The Jersey Shore Pops Orchestra has become one of the most popular summer traditions at the shore for many visitors. They are celebrating their 14th anniversary of summer concerts at the shore this year. Special guest artists will include the amazing violinist Susan Elsayed and vocalist Jacklyn Buckingham.
On July 3rd, Linda and the Pops will honor the contributions of three of America’s greatest musical figures.
Although too old to serve as a soldier in World War II, Glenn Miller organized, conducted, and played in an Army Air Force band, entertaining the allied troops in Britain. His original arrangements of “In the Mood,” “String of Pearls”, “Tuxedo Junction,” Pennsylvania 6500,” “American Patrol,” “Moonlight Serenade,” “St. Louis Blues,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” and other standards helped lift the spirits of soldiers and the American public.
Gershwin blended classical, jazz, and popular music styles and techniques to fashion unforgettable compositions like “Rhapsody in Blue,” “Embraceable You,” “Strike Up the Band,” and “Love Walked In.” Part of a fabulous family duo, George’s brother, Ira, supplied witty and sophisticated lyrics for nearly all of George’s songs.
Irving Berlin wrote more than 800 songs, from ragtime and jazz melodies to the golden age of musicals. Among his more famous pieces are “Oh, How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning,” “A Pretty Girl Is like a Melody,” “Cheek to Cheek,” “How Deep Is the Ocean,” “Blue Skies,” “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” the patriotic standard “God Bless America,” “Heat Wave,” and “There’s No Business like Show Business.”
