The New Phoenix Jazz Band, led by Jeremy Forde, is back at the Edinburgh Jazz 'n Jive Club.Formed in 2011, the band focuses on Jazz of the first half of the 20th century, exploring, through arrangements, transcriptions and compositions (produced by band members), the rich tradition of the vibrant, emotive and refined music of the period. Expect a fantastic mix of Dixieland / New Orleans and swinging Jazz standards, all perfectly performed for both dancing and listening.
Slightly smaller than usual, the band will play as a sextet, consisting of Dick Lee (reeds), Martin Foster (reeds), Bill Jones (trombone), Phil Adams (banjo/guitar), Jack Wilson (drums) and, of course, Jerry Forde (double bass).
The Edinburgh Jazz 'n Jive Club offers on Fridays live Jazz music in a relaxed club house atmosphere, with a bar and an excellent, wooden dance floor. The music is generally suitable for dancing Foxtrot and Swing (Lindy Hop, Shag, Balboa). Come along to listen to superb Jazz and to dance the evening away!
No need to book in advance, just come along! The entry fee of £12 (£10 for members) can be paid at the door by card, cash or cheque. The main entrance is from Bangholm Terrace, with step-free access from Warriston Gardens corner Inverleith Row.
