Songwriter Jeremy Ratib will be presenting his latest album Backlot Country, a misted window into his childhood growing up in Los Angeles, inhabited by oddball character loosely based on reality and ever-looking to make their way back home, sunset wildfires that wiped his old neighborhood off the map, and a general sense of nostalgia and post y2k dread, standing at the twilight of an era. Backlot Country takes its roots in the folk tradition of storytelling, and infuses it with a homemade emo country-rock concoction, like an Elliott Smith feature on Wilco’s Nick Drake cover album that never saw the light of day. For this evening of Dark Country at Atomic Café, Jeremy will be accompanied by his trustee Sunday Cartoons, Valentin Liechti on drums, Robin Girod on bass, and guest cartoon Flavie N’dam on the saxophone.

Jeremy Ratib présentera son dernier album Backlot Country, une vitre embuée ouverte sur son enfance passée à Los Angeles. On y croise des personnages un peu loufoques, vaguement inspirés de souvenirs, des incendies qui font rougir les plus beaux sunsets du Pacifique, ainsi qu’un sentiment diffus de nostalgie et d’angoisse post-Y2K, au crépuscule d’une époque. Backlot Country puise dans la tradition folk du songwriting, qu’il détourne en concoction d’emo country-rock — comme un Elliott Smith sur l’album de reprises de Nick Drake par Wilco qui n’a, hélas, jamais vu le jour. Pour cette soirée de Dark Country à l’Atomic Café, Jeremy sera accompagné de ses fidèles Sunday Cartoons : Valentin Liechti à la batterie, Robin Girod à la basse, ainsi que du guest cartoon Flavie N’dam au saxophone.
