From a Chinese medical perspective, the shen-spirit reflects dimensions of the xin–heart–mind dynamic that range from deep awareness of one’s connection to the Dao to fixation upon traumatic events that interrupt the natural flow of spiritual development. Trauma may cause the spirit to fragment, withdraw, or become bound to past experiences, preventing the individual from fully inhabiting the present moment.
This course explores trauma points as understood through the framework of stone medicine, examining how unresolved shock, injury, or emotional rupture can cause the spirit to fixate, fragment, or withdraw. Drawing from Daoist cosmology and classical medical texts, the lecture demonstrates how stone-based approaches were historically used to ground excess movement, settle agitation, and allow the spirit to re-inhabit the body fully.
Students will learn how trauma points may be applied clinically to address mental-emotional disturbances, chronic pain, neurological conditions, and somatic patterns rooted in unresolved trauma, offering insight into how ancient principles remain applicable in modern practice.
