Can you remember that last time you had a great afternoon with friends? That afternoon that you will never forget, because you enjoyed it so much? Sitting around the table, the lights a little bit dimmed, candles or the fire place burning, that fantastic bottle that you saved for special occasions is open, but most of all, you are surrounded by the most precious people in your life, people who you love and love you in return, people that make you feel at home and who you trust completely. And then suddenly, in the middle of that afternoon full of laughter and fun, this warm sentiment of happiness overwhelms you.
Well, that, exactly that moment when your heart is completely fulfilled, that’s the feeling on which I built this album: ‘That Old Feeling.’
So open up your hearts, take some time to sit back, enjoy a good glass of whatever you like and let this music take you away on a journey with a big smile!
Well-known and less well-known songs, in addition to my own work of course, come across on That Old Feeling. From Damien Rice to Marvin Gaye and Paul Simon, recorded by a bunch of incredibly strong vocalists (among others: Madeleine Peyroux, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Robin McKelle, Johnny Manuel and Sam Sparro).
For the live tour, there’s an amazing band and two vocalists, with the incomparable “Mo” (Monique Harcum, USA/BE, ex Zap Mama, Jill Scott) and her colleague with a beautiful warm voice Sam Merrick (UK, Nick Ross Orchestra,Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra,…). Add on top of that a strong rhythm section (Nathan Wouters on bass, Jens Bouttery on drums) and Jef's musical brother, Teus Nobel on trumpet, combined with saxes by Andy Dhondt and trombones by Pieter Kindt and let that gang be led by the man whose fire and passion burst from the piano, and you will quickly understand what is meant by ‘That Old Feeling’.
