Adapted from the award-winning short film of the same name, this heartwarming children’s picture book follows the journey of a determined puppy who overcomes adversity to discover his purpose as a service dog.

Meet Andy––the smallest of his litter––who first captured hearts and minds in the original short film, brought to life by Ignite Animation Studios through the support of Jean Schulz, the Executive Producer and a Canine Companions board member.

Now Andy’s inspiring story leaps off the screen and onto the page in this uplifting retelling by John Kelly, a contributor to the original film script. Follow along as Andy faces challenges on his path, mirroring the real-life dedication, training, and bond that go into preparing service dogs to help people with disabilities.

Jean Schulz is the President of Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates and Executive Producer of the Andy film, Jean Schulz has served on the Board of Canine Companions since 1986. She is the widow of Charles “Sparky” Schulz and currently serves as President of the Board of Directors of the Charles M. Schulz Museum.

Jamy Wheless is the President of Ignite Animation Studios and Director of the short film Andy. A former artist at Industrial Light & Magic, he worked closely with George Lucas and helped bring iconic characters such as Yoda (Star Wars) and Davy Jones (Pirates of the Caribbean) to life. With more than 30 years of experience in animation and visual effects, Wheless continues to shape unforgettable characters and tell their stories on screen.

Canine Companions is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities by providing expertly trained service dogs, free of charge. Since 1975, Canine Companions has placed thousands of highly skilled assistance dogs with individuals and facilities, fostering greater independence and confidence. John Kelly has been creating children’s books since 1990, combining his talent for drawing with a passion for explaining science, history, and engineering in engaging ways. He has designed hundreds of titles for publishers and licensors like Dorling Kindersley, Lucasfilm, and Disney. His debut picture book, Guess Who’s Coming for Dinner? (The Mystery of Eatum Hall in the US), led to a successful career as an author and illustrator, with works translated into over 20 languages. Twice shortlisted for both the Kate Greenaway Medal and the Royal Society Junior Science Book Prize, John continues to inspire young readers with imaginative stories, including his recent series, The Monster Doctor, published by Macmillan UK.
