ABOUT MAVIS PAN (piano / voice / bandleader)

Mavis Pan, composer, pianist, and singer, presents a blend of East and West, jazz and classical, and gathers the flavors of a multitude of cultures in her compositions. Her portfolio ranges from solo piano to orchestral work, pop to avant garde, ballad to art song, jazz trio to string quartet. Born in Taiwan, where she began piano lessons at the age of four, she emigrated to New Jersey as a teen. She currently resides in Manhattan at Lincoln Center. She earned a Bachelor’s in Jazz Piano Performance from NYU and a Master’s in Music and Music education from Columbia University and a Master’s in Classical Composition from Brooklyn Conservatory under the mentorship of Pulitzer Prize winning composer Tania Leon.

Pan's choral work, A Christmas Carol, was recorded by the Kiev Philharmonic under the ERM label, and following the release of her debut jazz album On My Way Home in 2010 she spent a year in Shanghai, China where she performed and served as a piano instructor and translator for the Jazz Intensive Music Camp. Her second piano solo album Not Alone was released in December of 2016 and was distributed in the USA and China. Her third album, Set For Love, was produced by Grammy-Award-winning drummer Ulysses Owens, Jr. and co-written with lyricist David Keyes; it was released May 2019. This spring 2022, Mavis released her fourth album Inside, a collection of 13 original intimate love songs co-written with David Keyes during the pandemic, produced by Grammy-Award-winning composer and arranger Michel Patterson. It features Mavis on vocals, accompanied by Grammy-winning instrumentalist Ted Nash on flute and sax.
