JAZZ UP! presents…AWAY FROM HOME
The new season of Jazzup returns with a new young band!
Over the years JazzUp is proud to have brought you the very best in both contemporary and classic jazz this country has to offer.
At the same time JazzUp prides itself in giving young players exposure and experience as they go on to become the professionals and stars of the next generation.
This night is precisely about that, with the new kids on the block, fresh from loads of gigging, composing and recording, taking centre stage.
JazzUp regulars will also know that UK jazz is in a sustained and highly energised renaissance which is driven by youth, diversity and originality. Away From Home are very much a part of it and typify the movement.
They are energetic, youthful, and occasionally gloriously wonky, and this Leeds-based quintet unleashes its original swinging tunes with an acoustic rhythm section and bottom- heavy horns. Influenced by Mingus, Phronesis & Don Ellis, they bring rich tones and new ideas every time they play.

Our resident JazzUP DJ Sten King delivers that unique JazzUp vibe. Sten is well known as a presenter of acclaimed hip hop radio shows such as ‘The Boom Bap Boutique’, and has built a reputation as the DJ that the musicians love as much as the audience.

Like all our gigs, this show finishes well in time for the last trains North and South to Cambridge/Peterborough and London and we are just a 5 minute stroll from the station.
