Bellbird is collective of Montreal-based musicians. Their unique instrumentation of two woodwinds, bass, and drums, allows them to explore sonic landscapes that allude to harmony without being restricted by it. Original compositions by each band member showcase their diverse sets of influences, including jazz, avant-garde, and folk music.
Tom McAvity has ben writing and performing original music in the genres of folk,
blues, country and jazz in Fredericton and surrounding areas since the mid 1970’s.
He has been a regular at the Harvest Jazz and Blues festival over the years, and
has two albums available on Bandcamp, with a third currently in production
(tommcavity.bandcamp.com).
Tayce McAvity began playing classical guitar at a young age, and eventually
switched to bass for his father’s blues band “Big Giant Heads”. He has been
playing bass for his father, and various other bands around the Maritimes since
the 1990’s, and is currently the bassist for the popular local band “Pretty in Pink”,
as well as several other bands from Fredericton and outlying communities
including his father’s current band “Buskeroo Banzai”.
Mike Kelly has been in the Canadian Music scene for over 40 years.
Playing drums from a very early age, Mike grew up with strong Calypso,
Jazz and Pop influence. “Groove” was all important! If not involved in
original music production, he won’t be far from the recording desk in search
of the ideal drum sound.
