About this Event
This quintet represents a turning point in the growth of British jazz composer/performer Greg Lyons. It features both long-term musical allies in the shape of Australian drummer Darren Moore, a regular collaborator of Greg's during the past 2 decades in Singapore; and elements of the fruits of his efforts as a mentor and educator, with two graduates of his Grooveworks program: pianist Eugene Ang, and bassist Fabian Lee. Both of these players are at the cuttung edge of the new wave of jazz in Singapore. Another in this ilk is guitarist Alvin Wong, whose determina=tion to follow his chosen aesthetic make him another formidable ally for the cause of advancing the frontline of indigenous modern jazz.
Greg Lyons has been at the aesthetic helm of the Jazz Loft since its inception, and together with the visionary insight of Aileen Tan of Blu Jaz, has shaped a clear identity for the space as a bastion of progressive jazz . Though he rarely allows himself the opportunity to indulge his musical passions, preferring to feature other, younger voices on the scene, it seems only right to book-end this initial year of operation with a performance by this group.
The set will feature mostly original compositions, plus a few gems from the current global melting pot.
