Singer/songwriter Eugenie Jones (www.eugeniejones.com) is an exceptional vocalist and cleverly gifted lyricist who has released highly-praised, primarily original, soulful American Jazz vocal projects. Jones was not supposed to be a jazz singer. She graduated with an MBA in marketing and her post-graduate career took her deep within the nonprofit sector as a marketing communications executive. Her mother, a soprano gospel singer, was the singer in the family, and when cancer claimed her life, Jones managed her grief by setting out to see if she could carry forward that part of her mom’s life. Ten years later, the now acclaimed jazz vocalist celebrated her first decade in the jazz spotlight with The Originals, a remixed, remastered, best-of greatest hits collection of songs from her prior albums, all from her own pen and all released on her own music label, Open Mic Records. Her prior efforts have led to recognition as an Earshot Jazz Recording of the Year and Vocalist of the Year award recipient as well as several of her recordings charting high on the national jazz charts. Equally important to Jones is her legacy and community work over the years. These efforts include serving as executive director for the Jackson Street Jazz Walk for five years, orchestrating the Celebrating Ernestine Anderson Tribute Series, and leading fund-raising for at-risk teen programs, senior meal delivery programs, community youth development clubs and neighborhood food banks. In addition Jones has persevered in keeping the legacy of African American contributions to jazz alive. For her Marine View appearance she will be joined by Nick Allison on piano, Bob Antolin on guitar and saxophone, Jonathan Green on bass and Ronnie Bishop on drums.
