The evening will feature an Eclectic mix of jazz, original and improvised music for guitar and saxophone in an intimate duo setting. Scott and Sheldon are reuniting after a long hiatus and look forward to sharing work from their collaboration 25 years ago and updating their work together with developments that have sprung up in the interim. This will be a concert full of surprises for both the audience and performers.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:Composer and woodwind instrumentalist Sheldon Brown has been active on the San Francisco Bay Area creative music scene and beyond for over 30 years. In addition to performing his original music with Sheldon Brown Group, Brown has performed with a diverse array of people and groups including Anthony Braxton, Ben Goldberg, Omar Sosa, Club Foot Orchestra, Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra, Clarinet Thing and Bobby Weir. His extended original composition Blood of the Air (funded by Chamber Music America and Inter Music) premiered at the 32nd Annual San Francisco Jazz Festival, and was featured at the 16th Annual Outsound Festival. Most recently Brown performed and composed music for Club Foot Orchestra’s score for the classic silent film, Pandora’s Box, at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland.
Scott Foster has been a fixture on San Francisco jazz scene for over two decades. He can be heard performing regularly with his own group and as a sideman with the Americano Social Club, B3B4 and multitude of the bay area's finest musicians at wide variety of venues. Scott Foster's CD's "Basement Sinfonietta”, “Go Small" and "Night Blooming Jazzmen" are currently available. Additionally Scott is the Performing Arts Chair and Jazz Band Director at the Urban School of San Francisco.

Jazz in the Neighborhood works to improve the economics of jazz performance in the Bay Area by presenting affordable concerts, paying musicians a guaranteed wage, and supporting the work of established and aspiring jazz artists.Art • Equity • Access.
ART • Jazz is often called the one truly American art form. We honor that legacy while supporting exploration and new approaches to the genre. Jazz in the Neighborhood events provide a space for jazz musicians to be creative, spontaneous, and expressive in their interpretation of music. Our Emerging Artists program nurtures the upcoming generation of jazz musicians through mentoring and opportunities to learn on the bandstand.
EQUITY • Jazz musicians have long been participants in the “gig” economy. Very few have the security of regular employment playing jazz, especially with the decline of union representation. For many, the economics of jazz performance has become a cut of ticket sales, a tip jar, maybe a free meal, and often a day job. This kind of remuneration hardly seems fair given the knowledge, skill, and practice that’s required to become a jazz musician. So unlike many concert producers, Jazz in the Neighborhood guarantees musicians a fair wage when they perform at our events. We encourage all venues to join us in paying a guaranteed fair wage to jazz musicians.
ACCESS • We believe that everyone should be able to enjoy live jazz in a comfortable, acoustically appropriate setting at an affordable price. Many of our shows are free. When events have an admission charge, we keep the price reasonable and never turn anyone away for lack of funds. Please take a look at our events blog and calendar page for upcoming concerts.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
EVENT TIME
When should I arrive?Doors open 30 minutes before the scheduled performance time. For example, if the show is scheduled to start at 7:30pm, the doors will open at 7:00pm. If the show is scheduled to start at 8:00pm, the doors will open at 7:30pm, and so on.
TICKETING & ADMISSION
If an event is sold out online, could I still purchase tickets? No
Does purchasing an advance ticket guarantee seating?Purchasing an advance ticket guarantees admission, but does not guarantee seats. Seating is first come, first served.
Does the Poppy accept debit or credit cards? Only for online sale. Door sale is cash.
What's the refund policy?Refunds are only available in the event of a cancelled performance.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? Is there a discount for children?No, this event is all ages. However, refreshments will be served at the concessions counter. Children 10 and under receive free general admission.
Where are my tickets?Your tickets will be emailed to you as a PDF attachment from Eventbrite on behalf of the Red Poppy, or you may access them in the Eventbrite app. If you do not see your order confirmation in your inbox, make sure to check your junk/spam folder. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?You may bring your printed ticket or show your ticket on your phone. There will be no tickets available for pick up at Will Call.
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?Yes, you’re welcome to purchase tickets for someone else.
VENUE & LOCATION
Is the space ADA accessible?Yes, there is a ramp at our 23rd St entrance.
What kind of seating do you have available?For most of our events we have folding chairs and a few couches available.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?Street parking is available but can be limited around the Red Poppy. We encourage you to take public transportation whenever possible. Several MUNI lines run close to the Red Poppy, and the 24th St. Mission BART station is just under half a mile away.
