We are pleased to invite you for a very special jazz evening featuring one of the most distinguished and important jazz figures on the modern international jazz scene today.
Makar Novikov is one of the best known jazz double bassists from
the Berlin jazz scene. He is an experienced accompanist and virtuoso soloist who has performed with artists like Jimmy Cobb, Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath, Lew Tabackin at venues and festivals like the Montreux Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s in London, Duc des Lombards in Paris, Apollo JazzTheater and Smalls Jazz Club in New York.
Carl Winther is known as one of Denmark's best piano players. Son of the world famous composer and trumpet player, Jens Winther, he started touring at an early age. The Award Winning vituoso, has been performing with the likes of Billy Hart, Jerry Bergonzi, Bill Evans, Daniel Humiar, Adam Nussbaum, James Genus, Till Broenner, Markus Strickland, Dick Oats, Dejan Terzic, Eliel Lazo, Moussa Diallo, Mads Vinding, Hugo Rasmussen, Mikkel Nords, Al Campos, Tomas Franck, Doug Raney, to name some. His performance is breathtaking and virtuous. Winther has been awarded for his precise and extravagant compositions and his amazing performance
This night Winther and Novikov will be joined by two other important European jazz figures based in Aalborg: Yannick Ballmann and Oleksandr Kolosii, who are active performers on Aalborg jazz scene and internationally.
The quartet will perform original compositions rooted in straight-ahead jazz, presented through a modern lens enriched with world rhythms and sophisticated harmonies and melodies.
The repertoire features music from the band members’ latest albums, and the musicians are excited to come together and share the stage for this special collaboration.
