An exhilarating evening of gypsy jazz and romantic acoustic guitar swing with two superb ensembles.Renowned guitarist Michael Joseph Harris brings his Django Reinhardt inspired group Hot Club of Baltimore to Richmond. Experience a wide range of music including traditional Gypsy Jazz, virtuosic French waltzes, burnin' be-bop tunes, and sublime romantic melodies. The ensemble includes Shawn Simon (bass), Connor Holdridge (rhythm guitar), and Dallas Vietty (accordion). This particular group seems to read each other's minds on stage with a wonderful blend of improvisation and impressive technical ability. Harris also performs classics in the 1930's Hot Club style began by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli and virtuosic French musette Gypsy Jazz waltzes.
Django Tango is Richmond’s premier gypsy jazz group. Formed by RVA guitarist Russ Hanchin to celebrate the music of legendary French guitarist Django Reinhardt and the Quintette du Hot Club de France. Join us for a memorable evening of gypsy latin rhythms and infectious swing music that will inspire you to move. Bring your dancing shoes! The ensemble includes Allen Burris (clarinet/sax), Freddy Lau (guitar), James Carrington Beard (guitar) and Carter Blough (acoustic bass).
