FREE AND OPEN TO ALL Come to Alliance Française Chandigarh and enjoy the jazz music of “Guillaume Barraud Quartet”.
After the acclaimed ‘Indo-Jazz Sessions’, the Guillaume Barraud Quartet returns with a new opus entitled ‘Tales of the Bamboo Reed’, exploring the sound of the bansuri with hard-edged electric guitar and moody, groovy bass and drums. A selection of highly poetic pieces that tell a complex initiatic journey, reflecting the artist’s special bond with the Indian bamboo flute. In a blitz of serpentine melodies set against odd-time grooves, the French flautist makes a punchy pitch for the instrument’s versatility. Initially, Barraud composed most of the material on his first instrument, the guitar, before expanding on flute, which shows the prominence of his British guitarist Tam de Villiers. The fleet-footed rhythm section comprises bassist Guillaume Ruelland and drummer Maxime Zampieri (Magic Malik). This is contemporary jazz brewed with progressive rock, pop and Indian music.
