About this Event
Arda Daltaban is a Turkish born jazz saxophonist who is currently attending his fourth year of study at the Royal Conservatoire Of Scotland. After spending his childhood listening to rock, and later moving on to progressive rock, Arda made a transition into jazz with the guidance of his teacher, who introduced him to the famous figures of the genre like Parker, Coltrane, Cannonball, Rollins, Getz, and many more. Even though Arda came to study at RCS with an interest in traditional swing and bebop, his discovery of Ornette Coleman and especially Albert Ayler fundamentally changed his outlook on music. Now, drawing heavy inspiration from these two musicians and the likes of John Coltrane, Jan Garbarek, Sonny Rollins, Miguel Zenon, and Kenny Garret, Arda’s sound is energetic, expressive, and brimming with the vibrant language of blues, bebop, world jazz, and free jazz. In addition to this, Arda’s interest in the cultural music of Turkey has provided him with a brand-new context to interact with ideas in improvisation. Starting an intensive study on the microtonal aspect of Turkish music, Arda plans on implementing foreign ideas into jazz to create an unfamiliar sound.
