This JAZZ at MOCA is a special collaboration with Pioneer Winter Collective and Diego Melgar with poetry by Arsimmer McCoy.Pioneer Winter Collective will premiere a never-before-seen version of its critically acclaimed dance-theater performance Birds of Paradise as part of Jazz at the MOCA. This new iteration now blends Pioneer Winter’s choreography with live poetry by Arsimmer McCoy and music by Diego Melgar. Birds of Paradise is iridescent and effortful. It is a provocative, immersive piece perched between fight and flight. Birds of Paradise confronts our notions of dance by exploring movement with people of varied physical ability, body type, gender identity, race, ethnicity, and experiences.
