This December, Jazz at Imli opens with a line drawn between Kolkata and New York.
The Birsa–Esteban Duo (USA) brings together saxophonist-composer Birsa Chatterjee, who weaves raga and rhythm into modern jazz and New York-based pianist Esteban Castro a Juilliard prodigy and Montreux Jazz Piano Competition winner.
Together, they move easily between talas and swing, longform improvisation and sharp, contemporary harmony – the kind of conversation usually reserved for small clubs in Manhattan, now unfolding at Imli Sarai.
