The 2025 Traditional and Contemporary Jazz Concert Series, produced by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation and presented by Goldfarb Financial, promises to be an extraordinary celebration of the timeless and modern evolution of jazz.
The Jason Stewart Quintet ft. Donald Vega perform live in concert on Saturday, January 25 2025, at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center (1225 N. Rampart Street). Doors open at 7pm and the concert begins promptly at 8pm.

Jason Stewart Quintet ft. Donald Vega
Jason Stewart, a prominent bassist from New Orleans, began playing double bass at 17 and was introduced to Black American Music at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, studying under renowned trumpeter Clyde Kerr Jr. and bassist Bill Huntington. In the 1990s, he built his early career in New Orleans before moving to New York City in 2000. Studying from 2007 to 2013 with master bassist Ron Carter, Stewart earned an Artist Diploma from the Juilliard School. He is best known for his long-term collaboration with the Ellis Marsalis trio, quartet, and quintet from 2007 to 2020, and his performances with other notable musicians like the Marsalis family, Steve Masakowski, and Terence Blanchard. Stewart was a fixture at Snug Harbor, playing with Ellis Marsalis until his passing in 2020. He currently resides in New Orleans and continues to perform with artists such as Jason Marsalis, Delfeayo Marsalis and many others!
The quintet features acclaimed pianist Donald Vega, a refined jazz ensemble that masterfully combines tradition with innovation, crafting a captivating sound that enchants audiences.. Led by bassist and composer Jason Stewart, the quintet is known for its dynamic performances and intricate compositions that highlight Stewart's command of rhythm and melody. With each member bringing unique talents, the inclusion of Vega adds depth and emotion, enhancing the ensemble's artistry. Vega has a distinguished career, having performed with jazz greats like Ron Carter. Together, the quintet and Vega offer a fresh jazz perspective through original compositions and creative interpretations, captivating both seasoned jazz enthusiasts and new listeners with their memorable performances and recordings.
