About this Event
Thirty years ago, the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing (FWCW) marked a transformative moment for gender equality, culminating in the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA). This landmark document laid out a comprehensive framework for achieving women's empowerment across 12 critical areas of concern. To commemorate this monumental anniversary and reflect on both the journey since 1995 and the path forward, Jaslika and WERK is proud to host a two-part fireside chat series which aims to engage an intergenerational audience, fostering reflection, dialogue, and renewed commitment to fully realising the promise of Beijing.
The first chat in this series delved into the historical context, the preparatory processes, and the key challenges and triumphs that led to the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. It also began to assess the initial progress and foundational shifts that the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA) helped to catalyse in its immediate aftermath. The second chat in this series will be forward-looking. It will critically examine persistent and emerging challenges to gender equality in Kenya today and collectively envision the strategic priorities, innovative approaches, and intergenerational actions needed to achieve the BPfA's vision going forward.
The fireside chat will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM. Join Jaslika and WERK at the Hekima Auditorium within the Kenya National Library Service (KNLS) Headquarters in Upperhill, Nairobi.
