Informed by UFO encounters, ritualism, robots, Northern Soul, and solar flares, space-surf-psych-rock quartet Japanese Television continue the quest to spread their fuzzy gospel. The band have spent the past year touring the UK with Swedish psychedelic legends GOAT & British cult surf grunge outfit The Wytches to huge audiences, and we’re delighted to welcome them for their CWRW debut.“On a different orbit from everything else’’ - Steve Lamacq, BBC 6 Music
JTV will be joined by returning rock ‘n’ roll collective Waterpistol, taking inspiration from the likes of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Marty Robbins and The Mamas and Papas to create a sonic explosion of jazz, blues and celestial shoegaze. Further support comes from new Swansea shoegazers PaleGreenHouse, fresh from the release of their debut album ‘Pathogen’.
Japanese Television’s second album ‘Automata Exotica’, released last month, sees a combination of cyclical, mechanical rhythms, heavy bass, reverb drenched organ and plenty of fuzz. ‘Automata Exotica’ is louder, tighter, bolder and rawer than anything they have done before.
The new record follows 2022 debut LP ‘Space Fruit Vineyard’, a record which caught the support of BBC 6 Music (where they’ve had over 100 spot plays and recorded two sessions for Marc Riley), Radio X, NME, So Young, Clash, Louder Than War, DIY, Arts Desk and Gigwise.
“Absolutely brilliant” - Marc Riley, BBC 6 Music
“Lives up to its cosmic-beachy billing” - NME
“An off-piste dream...a wild phenomenon” - Clash
“Sought after psych-seekers” - So Young
“Trippy, witty, surf laden” - God Is In The TV
