This traditional Japanese technique requires no bookbinding background and is an excellent place to start your bookbinding journey.

Originating from the Japanese period 1603 – 1867, Japanese stab binding is a simple, yet elegant style of bookbinding, known as Yotsume Toji, meaning “four holes.” Stab binding is an easy, beautiful way to bind notebooks, sketchbooks, and journals.

Bio:

Chris attended John Herron Art Institute and Cincinnati Commercial Art Academy. She studied art in both community college and under several renowned Southern California artists such as Milford Zornes, Robert George, and Aldo Casanova. She holds a graduate degree in American History and Culture. She is a public speaker on both the Underground Railroad and book art. She is a former gallery owner (The Corner Gallery) in Boulder City, Nevada and in downtown Las Vegas’ Art District.

She is past president of Friends of the Arts of Boulder City, Nevada and was awarded the Alice Eisenberg Award for her contributions to the arts in that City. She was also vice president of the Las Vegas Desert Sculptors Association. Her altered book art was awarded first place in the City of Las Vegas’ Celebration of Life Show.

She is a former board member of The dA Center for the Arts, in Pomona and curated several shows and events while serving. She has been speaker at the Petterson Museum of Intercultural Art, addressing her art and the history of books. She has been a teacher of book making for over a decade.

Her art has been displayed in several venues across both Southern California and Nevada to include one woman shows at the Ontario Airport, Garcia Center for the Arts, and Some Crust Bakery.

As a local artist she was honored as part of the Maloof Foundations “Thriving Artist Community Exhibit.”
