Step into the world of indigo with fiber artist Tamara Darnell Long in this beginner-friendly Shibori dye workshop. Shibori is a traditional Japanese resist-dyeing technique dating back to the 8th century, known for its beautiful, intricate patterns and deep cultural roots. In this hands-on class, you'll learn the basics of folding, clamping, tying, dipping, and dyeing fabric using vibrant indigo dye. Together, we’ll dye fabrics, and the techniques you learn can be applied to future textile or even paper projects. You'll also leave with creative ideas for how to use your finished pieces—think wall hangings, gifts, or functional art.
There are six separate classes in total–two classes each month, with each month introducing a new technique and project. You’re welcome to sign up for just one or two, or come for all six! Each session is split across two consecutive Sundays and is limited to 10 participants for a more personal, relaxed experience.
August Project: Tea Towels
September Project: Long Scarf
October Project: TBA
No experience is needed—just bring your curiosity, a willingness to explore, and wear something that can get messy. The only challenge? Deciding what to make next!
