Hideko Shimizu, Ph.D. is a Senior Lecturer in Asian Studies at Vanderbilt University specializing in Japanese language, culture, and society. She teaches courses on Japanese language and culture, food and Japanese society, and theories of Japanese flower arrangement. With over 30 years of experience in Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement), Dr. Shimizu holds a first-rank teaching license from the Sogetsu school. In addition to her university courses, she also offers private Ikebana classes. Dr. Shimizu showcased her work at an exhibition at the Nashville Public Library in 2023 and is scheduled to exhibit again in March 2025. Currently, she is engaged in several collaborative projects with artists.
